Ranked around No. 170, she earlier beat Anhelina Kalinina and world No. 12 Belinda Bencic.

Paolini is a two-time Grand Slam finalist, and this was their first meeting.

The run equals Kartal’s best at a WTA 1000 event, after Beijing last year.

It puts her on the verge of a swift return to the top 100.
