R Ashwin says Bhuvneshwar Kumar’s recall to India’s T20I squad is a reward for sustained success.
“He never chased that reward; he simply did his job,” Ashwin said on YouTube.
The 36-year-old was picked for five T20Is against New Zealand starting October 24.
It is his first T20I call-up since November 2022, when he last faced New Zealand.
The seamer has taken 90 wickets from 87 T20Is for India.
He took 17 IPL wickets for RCB in 2025 and 28 in 2026.
Batting coach Sitanshu Kotak said, “We need some experience. You can’t beat experience.”
