Miley Cyrus broke down in tears at the Hollywood Bowl while paying tribute to her late godmother, Dolly Parton.

It was the opening night of her Hollywood Bowl shows and her first concert in nearly four years.

Parton died on August 25 at the age of 80, and Cyrus called her “Aunt Dolly” on stage.

Cyrus said the only time she saw Parton perform live was at the same venue.

She had asked to watch as a fan, but Parton opened with the Hannah Montana theme and pointed her out.

“This memory is gold to me,” the 33-year-old said, adding that she misses Parton.

She then performed Parton’s 1973 hit “Jolene” as an image of her godmother appeared behind her.

Cyrus later sang “Wrecking Ball,” reportedly Parton’s favourite of her songs, while holding her picture.
