Jesse Eisenberg’s musical comedy The Debut closed the London Film Festival on Sunday.
Eisenberg wrote the screenplay and directed the film, which stars Oscar winner Julianne Moore.
On the closing-night red carpet, Eisenberg told Reuters that Moore is “the greatest actress in the world.”
He said he wrote the lead role specifically with Moore in mind.
“I will write every scene with her in mind and what she likes to do and what she’s great at,” he said.
The article notes Moore has rarely headlined an outright musical comedy.
The BFI-run festival has become an awards-season launchpad, with closing films often entering the Oscar conversation.
Eisenberg, an Oscar-nominated actor, has built a parallel career as a writer and director, first in theatre and then film.
