Paramount’s Street Fighter opened at No. 1 in North America with $31 million from 3,575 theaters.

The video game adaptation reportedly cost $82 million to make, so it still has work to do to become a hit.

Its per-theater average was roughly $8,670, which exhibitors said suggests broad interest rather than a fans-only rush.

A24’s You Can See Everything was the weekend’s surprise, opening to $15 million from just 855 theaters.

Universal’s horror film Other Mommy fell 70% in its second weekend to $8.3 million, good for third place.

Disney’s Whalefall debuted with $8 million, and Universal’s Sense and Sensibility opened to $7.2 million with an A- CinemaScore.

Analysts say $80 million to $100 million domestically, plus a similar overseas haul, would put the film near break-even.
