The Department of Homeland Security has ordered DeepSeek products removed from US civilian agency IT systems.

The order also covers third-party services built on the Chinese AI model, and bans agencies from buying them.

DHS said use of DeepSeek “may result in the transfer of sensitive data to the PRC.”

It warned the models “may contain malware or other security vulnerabilities.”

A July memo made public on Monday told agencies to monitor web traffic for DeepSeek-related risks.

The Commerce Department and the Navy had already banned DeepSeek on government devices.

States including New York, Tennessee and Virginia have taken similar steps.

The Chinese Embassy in Washington did not immediately comment on the order.
