India’s media and entertainment sector grew 9% to Rs 2.78 lakh crore in 2025, the I&B Secretary said.

He spoke on 15 October at the CII Big Picture Summit 2026 in Mumbai.

Digital media revenues crossed Rs 1 lakh crore, and live events grew 44%.

He urged the industry to build globally competitive companies and original intellectual property.

He called for a predictable policy environment and responsible practices to tackle piracy.

CII released a white paper outlining a roadmap to a $100 billion Indian media sector.

Valued at $32 billion in 2025, the sector would reach only about $64 billion by 2033 at current growth.

CII says annual growth must rise from 9% to 15.3% to close that gap.
