India's Anahat Singh, 18, beat eight-time world champion Nour ElSherbini 11-8, 11-8, 11-7 at the Silicon Valley Open in Redwood City, California.

The win over the world No. 3 and top seed took 30 minutes and put Anahat into the quarter-finals of the $143,500 PSA Gold event.

It was the first time the two had met, and it was the biggest win of Anahat's career so far.

The two share a coach, Greg. "I grew up watching her every game," Anahat said after the match.

"I admire her and I want to achieve the things she has achieved in her career," she added.

Anahat won the world junior title in July, took silver at the recent Asian Games in Japan and is ranked 15th in the world.

She started her Redwood City run on Tuesday by beating Egypt's Nour Aboulmakarim 11-8, 11-8, 12-10 in 31 minutes.

The Silicon Valley Open, a Gold-level event on the PSA Tour, runs in Redwood City until Saturday.
