The Granada Theater, one of Dallas' best-known concert venues, has been sold to Bathhouse, a New York-based wellness brand.
Owners Mike Schoder and Julia Garton announced the sale on Friday, Oct. 23. It includes their restaurant next door, Sundown at Granada.
The theater stays open for now. Shows and events continue through April 17, 2027, and every scheduled show will go on as planned.
Sundown ends regular restaurant service on Nov. 1, 2026. Private events there continue through Dec. 31.
The owners said rising costs, shifting audiences and corporate consolidation have made life increasingly difficult for independent venues.
They also said they turned down developers who wanted hundreds of apartments on the site and looked for a way to keep the music playing.
Bathhouse runs spa-style locations with thermal pools, saunas, steam rooms and massages. Jason Goodman and Travis Talmadge founded it in New York in 2019.
Talmadge told The Dallas Morning News that the Granada's exterior will stay unchanged when the space reopens.
Reports differ on timing. NBC 5 says the site should reopen in mid-2028, while WFAA says late 2028. The sale price has not been disclosed.
The Granada opened as a movie theater in January 1946 with a screening of Mildred Pierce. Schoder and Garton bought it in 2004.
Upcoming shows include Ray Wylie Hubbard on Oct. 30, The Linda Lindas on Oct. 31 and a Rhett Miller benefit concert on Nov. 1.
