The Browser Company is shutting down its Arc browser. Arc for macOS and Windows stops working on Dec. 22, 2026.
The company announced the sunset on Oct. 22 and is steering users to Dia, its newer AI-focused browser. New Arc accounts can no longer be created.
Security is the main reason given. The company said it can no longer keep Arc as safe and secure as it needs to be.
Feature work on Arc had already stopped in 2025. That same year, Atlassian bought The Browser Company for $610 million.
On Nov. 23, Arc Search for iOS and Android loses its AI features, including Browse for Me. Sign-in and tab sync stop then too.
Dec. 15 is the last day to request a copy of your Arc data or ask for it to be deleted.
After Dec. 22 the company says it can't retrieve Arc account data. Personal data is deleted within 30 days of deactivation.
Dia can import Spaces, pinned tabs, bookmarks, history, passwords and extensions. Each Arc Space becomes a new Profile in Dia.
Importing copies your data and leaves Arc unchanged, though Arc has to stay installed until the import finishes.
If you'd rather skip Dia, you can save Spaces and tabs as a list of links before Dec. 22. The Verge says Zen is often recommended as an Arc-like option.
Arc Search for Android is removed on Dec. 22. The iOS app keeps working as a basic browser.
CEO Josh Miller has said Arc can't be meaningfully open-sourced without also open-sourcing its internal toolkit, ADK. No such plan has been announced.
