James Gunn says Superman, Batman and Wonder Woman are the diamond characters at the centre of his DC Universe.
The DC Studios co-chief explained the plan this week in posts on Threads, replying to a now-deleted post about the universe's direction.
Gunn said the 8 to 10 year roadmap he pitched with Peter Safran was also a plan for which heroes DC would build around.
Some films will stand alone, like Guardians of the Galaxy. Others belong to a larger story such as the Superman Saga.
Superman led the first chapter in 2025 and returns in Man of Tomorrow. Batman has only appeared as a silhouette in Creature Commandos.
Wonder Woman has no film yet in the new universe. Reports say one is in development, written by Supergirl writer Ana Nogueira.
Gunn also named smaller characters he thinks could become diamonds over time: Krypto the Superdog, John Stewart and Peacemaker.
John Stewart, played by Aaron Pierre, co-led the HBO series Lanterns. Pierre is also confirmed for a part in Man of Tomorrow.
Peacemaker, played by John Cena, carried over from the previous DC film era after two seasons of his own series.
"It's exciting seeing things start to come together," Gunn wrote.
