Glenn Maxwell has retired from international cricket at 38, ending a 14-year Australia career that began with his debut in August 2012.

He confirmed the decision on the Final Word podcast on Monday, 2 November 2026. He had already quit one-day internationals in June 2025.

Maxwell was left out of Australia's Twenty20 squad to face England in November. He said there was no pressure from team management.

His last game for Australia was against Oman in February 2026. He took two wickets and did not bat as Australia won by nine wickets.

In 130 Twenty20 internationals he scored 2,897 runs at a strike rate of 154.42 and took 51 wickets.

His five Twenty20 international centuries are a world record he holds jointly with Rohit Sharma.

He won the ODI World Cup in 2015 and 2023, and hit the winning runs when Australia won the Twenty20 world title in 2021.

His best-known innings came at the 2023 World Cup, when his double hundred carried Australia through a chase against Afghanistan.

Across all formats he made 7,226 runs and took 136 wickets, with 10 centuries. His best Test score was 104 against India in Ranchi.

He will keep playing for the Melbourne Stars in the Big Bash League, where his contract now runs to the 2027-28 season.
