Russell Wilson interviewed on Tuesday, 3 November, for the vacant head coaching job at North Carolina State, ESPN's Adam Schefter reported.

Wilson played three seasons at NC State before a long NFL career. He retired in June and joined CBS Sports as an analyst.

NC State fired Dave Doeren on 24 October after a 3-4 start, including a 1-3 ACC record. Doeren left as the program's all-time wins leader.

Todd Goebbel is interim coach while the school runs a national search. Former NC State quarterback Philip Rivers is also a serious candidate.

Wilson left NC State in 2011 after then-coach Tom O'Brien released him from his scholarship. He transferred to Wisconsin for his final season.

He later won a Super Bowl with Seattle and made 10 Pro Bowls. He has never coached at any level, which could weigh on the school's decision.

Bill Cowher, a former NC State player and Wilson's CBS colleague, is an adviser in the search, according to Yahoo Sports.

No hire has been announced. The search will continue alongside the rest of the season under Goebbel.
