FSSAI has started prosecution against Surya Food & Agro, maker of Priyagold biscuits, over cattle-feed bran found at its plant.
Inspectors said bran meant for cattle feed, not human consumption, was used as a fibre source in Priyagold biscuits.
The gunny bags holding the bran were marked to show the material was intended for cattle feed.
The inspection followed a consumer complaint and found serious food safety and hygiene deficiencies at the plant.
Other lapses included pest control, raw material storage, personnel hygiene and premises maintenance problems.
The company’s FSSAI licence has been suspended, and prosecution was sanctioned under the Food Safety and Standards Act, 2006.
FSSAI also moved against Dodla Dairy, whose milk sample showed detergent or caustic soda and low milk fat.
Ueir Organic Foods faces proceedings over pesticide residues found in yellow raisins, the regulator said.
