Meta says suspending the No Kings Instagram account during a nationwide day of action was an automated error.
The account went dark around 1:30 p.m. Eastern on Saturday for roughly 90 minutes, organizers said.
Administrators could not log in to the account’s backend for about four more hours after it reappeared.
The day featured nearly 3,000 early-voting rallies across all 50 states and Washington, D.C.
Meta spokesman Andy Stone said very high posting activity triggered an automated action “clearly taken in error.”
Stone said everything was working again and that Meta “sincerely” apologized.
No Kings said restricting communications about voting in the middle of an election is unacceptable.
Organizer Ezra Levin likened the disruption to Meta’s content moderation troubles in Brazil.
The coalition wants Meta to add safeguards so civic accounts get human review before takedowns.
