The FDA has issued a new health alert for ground cinnamon after testing found elevated lead in 11 brands sold in the United States.

Lead levels ranged from 2.03 to 7.68 parts per million. The agency says exposure to these products may be unsafe.

Consumers should throw away the listed products or return them for a refund. The FDA has asked firms to recall them voluntarily.

This is the third public health alert this year for ground cinnamon. The focus is cinnamon used in foods children often eat.

Wise Wife Brand Ground Cinnamon from SLR Food Distribution was sold in 14 states in a 110-gram clear plastic container.

Super Cinnamon Powder from IHA Beverage tested at 7.68 and 6.60 parts per million and was sold at an Asian supermarket in Little Rock.

State programs keep sampling retail cinnamon, and the FDA said it will update the alert if more products fail testing.

Earlier alerts went out on 6 March 2024 and 25 July 2024 with other products recommended for recall.
