Semaglutide, the drug in Ozempic, was linked to a much lower risk of Alzheimer’s in a large study.

Case Western researchers analysed three years of health records for nearly one million people with type 2 diabetes.

Semaglutide users had a 40 to 70 percent lower risk of a first Alzheimer’s diagnosis.

The comparison was with seven other diabetes drugs, including metformin.

The study was published in the journal Alzheimer’s and Dementia.

A 2025 JAMA study tied semaglutide and tirzepatide to lower dementia, stroke and death risk.

Semaglutide is sold by Novo Nordisk as Ozempic, Wegovy and Rybelsus.
