IAF chief Air Chief Marshal Amar Preet Singh flew his final sortie on Tuesday with the instructor who first taught him to fly.
The 55-minute flight took off from the Air Force Academy at Dundigal, near Hyderabad.
He flew an HJT-16 Kiran Mk-1 trainer with Wing Commander V.S. Kochar (Retd), now 73.
His first sortie was on January 28, 1984, at the same academy, in a Kiran, with the same instructor.
The aircraft received a traditional water cannon salute after landing.
Singh called it a “dream come true” and said he wanted the circle to be complete.
Kochar called Singh “the brightest pupil ever” and said the flight was a dream for him too.
His last fighter sortie was in a Tejas on October 12. He retires later this month.
