Yemen’s Houthis struck the presidential palace complex in Aden on Thursday, killing five people.

The government said missiles and drones hit Al-Maashiq palace, seat of the Saudi-backed administration.

Health Minister Qasim Buhaibeh said 16 people were wounded, including guards and civilian staff.

The prime minister and cabinet members were safe, the information minister said.

It is the first strike of the current conflict on the palace itself, a sharp escalation.

Houthi spokesman Yahya Saree claimed the target was a Saudi military operations headquarters.

Reuters said it could not independently verify the Houthi claims.
