A Delhi court has rejected bail for two former health officials in an alleged Rs 700-crore medical procurement scam.

The accused are ex-health services chief Dr Vatsala Aggarwal and former procurement agency head Dr Vinod Kumar Ranga.

The case involves alleged purchases of medical goods at inflated prices and is being probed by the Anti-Corruption Branch.

Special Judge Vidya Prakash said their custody is needed because they may influence the investigation.

The court said filing a chargesheet alone does not entitle an accused to bail.

Further investigation into Rajiv Kumar alias Rajiv Rangeela and unknown firms is still under way.

Aggarwal, 61, got four weeks of interim bail on medical grounds in August, but an extension was refused.

The accused can still approach the Delhi High Court for relief.
