DRDO is offering its lightweight STANAG-6 armour technology to Indian industry after successful tests.
The armour panels are designed to withstand 30mm armour-piercing ammunition.
They meet Level 6 protection under NATO’s STANAG 4569 standard for military vehicles.
The panels were developed and tested by DRDO’s R&DE(E) engineering establishment in Pune.
They are meant for future Main Battle Tanks, Light Tanks and Future Infantry Combat Vehicles.
Lighter armour lets vehicles stay mobile across terrain without giving up protection.
DRDO has issued an Expression of Interest so Indian companies can acquire the know-how and manufacture the panels.
The move aims to build a domestic supply chain and cut reliance on imported armour.
