A court in Mombasa found Kenyan doomsday preacher Paul Mackenzie guilty of murdering 191 people, all but one of them children.

He ordered followers of his Good News International Church to starve themselves to death to meet Jesus.

Justice Diana Kavedza delivered an eight-hour judgment. Twenty-eight other church leaders were also convicted of murder.

Investigations into more than 200 other victims continue beyond the 191 deaths covered at trial.

Mass graves were found over three years ago in the Shakahola forest in Kilifi County. More than 400 bodies were exhumed.

Nearly half the victims were children and babies, some only weeks old, found with their hands and feet tied.

The court found children were targeted first, and armed guards beat followers who tried to eat or escape.

Mackenzie also told followers to shun education and health care, which he branded satanic.
