The jailer 2 box office juggernaut shows no sign of slowing down. Rajinikanth’s action sequel collected Rs 42.35 crore net in India on its fifth day, Monday, 19 October, taking its worldwide gross collection to Rs 477.75 crore, according to trade tracker Sacnilk. The Nelson Dilipkumar directorial is now within striking distance of the Rs 500 crore milestone, a mark it could cross well before the end of its first week in theatres.

The film’s extended opening weekend was a dream run, minting Rs 424.25 crore globally in its first four days. As expected, there was a slight drag on the first Monday, with daily India net earnings registering a 24.2 per cent decline from Sunday’s Rs 55.85 crore. Yet the Monday hold was strong enough to set a new benchmark: Jailer 2 recorded the biggest first Monday for a Tamil film, grossing over Rs 45 crore in domestic box office on its fifth day.

The films it has left behind on that list underline the scale of the achievement. Leo follows with Rs 39.5 crore, ahead of Jailer at Rs 27.3 crore, Bigil at Rs 22.8 crore and Ponniyin Selvan: Part 1 at Rs 22.35 crore. Trade watchers now expect the next two days to deliver record-breaking collections as the Dussehra holidays bring family audiences back to cinemas across the southern states.

Jailer 2 Box Office Day-Wise Collection

Jailer 2 opened on Thursday, 15 October, with Rs 59.70 crore net from 16,599 shows at 55.4 per cent occupancy, the highest single-day net of its run so far. Earnings fell to Rs 37.10 crore on Friday across 13,157 shows before recovering to Rs 47.25 crore on Saturday and Rs 55.85 crore on Sunday, the strongest day of the extended weekend. Monday added Rs 42.35 crore from 15,215 shows at 49.9 per cent occupancy, taking the five-day India net total to Rs 242.25 crore.

The film has also crossed the Rs 200 crore mark in domestic net collections, and its total India gross collection stands at Rs 283.75 crore. Overseas, the film collected Rs 10 crore on its fifth day, pushing its cumulative overseas gross to Rs 194 crore. With Rs 283.75 crore from the domestic market and Rs 194 crore from overseas, its worldwide gross collection now stands at Rs 477.75 crore, per Sacnilk estimates.

Language-Wise Jailer 2 Box Office Split

The Tamil version remained the biggest contributor on Monday, earning Rs 31.40 crore from 7,853 shows at 69.9 per cent occupancy, the highest among all languages. The Telugu version collected Rs 7.15 crore from 2,144 shows, while the Hindi version earned Rs 3.35 crore across 5,044 shows. The Kannada version added Rs 45 lakh from 174 shows at 42 per cent occupancy.

The Hindi version’s relatively modest share reflects the distribution turbulence in the northern belt, where the PVR-Inox chain reportedly did not programme the film widely over disputes around the OTT window. Even so, the Hindi contribution has remained steady enough to keep the national total climbing. The Telugu belt, by contrast, has outperformed expectations, with occupancy above 50 per cent on the first Monday.

Jailer 2 Box Office Records and the Road to Rs 500 Crore

Jailer 2 has emerged as the highest-grossing Tamil film of 2026 so far, and its performance over the coming weekdays will determine how quickly it crosses the Rs 500 crore mark. The Dussehra holiday on Tuesday is expected to give collections a fresh push, particularly in Tamil Nadu, Andhra Pradesh and Telangana, where the film’s occupancy remains the strongest.

Released to mixed reviews on 15 October, the film has nevertheless been praised widely for its entertainment value. In her review for NDTV, Latha Srinivasan called the sequel a solid commercial entertainer powered by Rajinikanth’s command of the frame, noting that while the writing occasionally loses its way in the second half, the film remains a fun, engaging watch. Social media reaction has echoed that verdict, with fans celebrating the humour, action and music.

Cast, Crew and the Promise of Jailer 3

Written and directed by Nelson Dilipkumar, Jailer 2 brings back Muthuvel Pandian, who investigates an idol smuggling racket in this instalment. The ensemble cast features Vidya Balan, S.J. Suryah, Ramya Krishnan and Suraj Venjaramoodu, with guest appearances by Mohanlal, Shiva Rajkumar and Hrithik Roshan. The music is composed by Anirudh Ravichander, cinematography is handled by Vijay Kartik Kannan and the film is edited by R. Nirmal.

With the promise of Jailer 3 teased in the film’s closing moments, the franchise now looks set to become one of the most commercially potent in Tamil cinema. For Rajinikanth, at 75, the film adds another major success to a career that continues to defy every convention of stardom, and the box office has only begun to tell the story.
