The TCS Q2 results for FY27 beat street expectations on profit, with India’s largest IT services exporter reporting a 15 per cent year-on-year jump in consolidated net profit to Rs 13,884 crore for the quarter ended September 2026. Revenue from operations rose 11.2 per cent to Rs 73,188 crore, while operating margin held steady at 24 per cent — numbers that sent the stock rallying nearly 6 per cent in two sessions and lifted the entire Nifty IT index.

On a sequential basis, the TCS Q2 results showed net profit up 4 per cent from Rs 13,349 crore in the June quarter, compared with Rs 12,075 crore a year earlier. Revenue advanced 1.3 per cent quarter-on-quarter from Rs 72,275 crore, though growth in constant currency was a more muted 0.5 per cent — a reminder that currency tailwinds flattered the headline numbers even as underlying demand stayed cautious.

TCS Q2 results: AI revenue crosses $3.1 billion

The standout disclosure in the TCS Q2 results was artificial intelligence. Annualised AI revenue crossed US$3.1 billion during the quarter, exceeding 10 per cent of total revenue for the first time — evidence that the company’s AI-led services are now a material growth engine rather than an experiment. Total contract value for the quarter stood at a healthy US$9.6 billion.

Two landmark deals defined the quarter. TCS announced a five-year strategic partnership with Porsche AG, including an AI Mobility Centre of Excellence spanning manufacturing, engineering, operations and customer experience, alongside the acquisition of MHP, Porsche’s Germany-based management and IT consulting subsidiary. It also agreed to transition Best Buy’s India global capability centre into an AI Capability Center. Chief executive K Krithivasan said the company was pleased with broad-based growth across international markets and most industry segments, calling the Porsche and Best Buy wins a new category of transformation partnerships that would industrialise AI at scale.

Dividend and margins in the TCS Q2 results

The board declared a second interim dividend of Rs 12 per share, with a record date of October 14 and payment due on October 30, translating into an interim payout of roughly Rs 4,341.7 crore. Earnings before interest and tax came in at Rs 17,553 crore, up 1.4 per cent sequentially, while net margin stood at 19 per cent. Net cash from operations was Rs 14,190 crore — 102.2 per cent of net income — underscoring the quality of the reported profit.

Segmentally, banking, financial services and insurance grew 2.5 per cent quarter-on-quarter in constant currency, while manufacturing and technology & services each grew 3.1 per cent. The UK led regional growth at 3.5 per cent, followed by Latin America at 4.3 per cent and Asia-Pacific at 2 per cent; North America inched up 0.4 per cent, while India declined 10.3 per cent sequentially though it remained 6 per cent higher year-on-year.

What the TCS Q2 results mean for IT stocks

Investors cheered the TCS Q2 results because they arrived when IT stocks were under pressure from cautious client spending, global economic uncertainty and fears about AI disrupting traditional services. The Nifty IT index surged past 29,300 in the sessions after the announcement, aided also by a stronger dollar — the dollar index touched an 18-month high near 102.6, which mechanically boosts rupee earnings for exporters.

Headcount rose by 4,258 to 598,056 employees, while trailing twelve-month attrition in IT services stood at 13.3 per cent. Analysts tracking the TCS Q2 results cautioned that the sequential picture remains the key monitorable: with constant-currency growth at just 0.5 per cent quarter-on-quarter, the pace at which mega-deals like Porsche convert into revenue — and at what margin — will decide whether the rally sustains into the second half of FY27.

Peer readings will follow shortly. HCLTech has already reported revenue of $3.72 billion (Rs 35,620 crore) with profit up 21.18 per cent to Rs 5,132 crore, while Infosys is due to report on October 23 — giving investors a full picture of how India’s top-tier exporters are navigating the cautious spending environment.

Currency remains a swing factor. With the dollar index near an 18-month high, rupee depreciation continues to flatter reported growth; analysts will watch constant-currency momentum and deal conversion in the December quarter for proof that demand — not forex — is driving the numbers.
