Shah Rukh Khan turned 61 on 2 November and greeted fans outside his Mumbai home, Mannat, in the evening, after skipping his usual midnight appearance on the balcony. Fans had gathered outside the house through the day, and the actor stepped out as darkness fell to wave, salute and blow kisses to the crowd.

The evening greeting kept a birthday habit that many fans plan around each year. People travel to Bandra on 2 November in the hope of seeing the actor, and this year they waited through a day shaped by renovation work at the house. Shah Rukh Khan appeared on a platform outside the residence, which was surrounded by scaffolding, and struck his familiar arms outstretched pose for the crowd below.

Bollywood Hungama reported that Shah Rukh Khan wore a white T-shirt and blue jeans for the appearance. Filmfare published photographs of the same moment and described fans cheering as soon as he came into view.

Shah Rukh Khan skips the midnight greeting

Mannat is undergoing renovation, and the family has moved out for the duration of the work, according to Bollywood Hungama. That change removed the usual midnight balcony moment from this year’s birthday. Shah Rukh Khan did not appear at midnight, and fans who had gathered at that hour were greeted instead by a large projection outside the residence.

The projection carried a handwritten note from the actor. It read, “Thank you all for your wishes and love. Sending mine right back to you all. Lots of love and a big hug.” The display also carried visuals and lines from his next film, King, including “King Akela Kaafi Hai” and “Darr Nahi, Dehshat Hoon”.

India Forums reported a similar sequence of events, with the actor stepping out later in the day after missing the midnight greeting. The report said fans chanted his name and shouted messages of affection when he appeared, and that he answered by waving to different parts of the crowd and making a pranam gesture. The two reports agree on the shape of the day: no midnight appearance, a projected message in its place, and a greeting in person later on.

Shah Rukh Khan and the King campaign

The birthday also served as the start of public promotion for King. The first song from the film, “Tu Mil Jaaye”, was released at midnight on the actor’s birthday, and the projection outside Mannat carried material from the film. Shah Rukh Khan appears in the song with Deepika Padukone, according to reports of the release.

King is directed by Siddharth Anand and is scheduled to reach cinemas on 24 December 2026. Bollywood Hungama lists Deepika Padukone, Suhana Khan, Abhishek Bachchan and Rani Mukerji among the cast. The film is the actor’s next cinema release, and the birthday timing gave its first song a large audience on the day it arrived.

Red Chillies Entertainment, the production house behind the film, shared a video of the birthday greeting on social media. The clip showed Shah Rukh Khan waving and blowing kisses to the crowd, and the post carried the release date for King. The Bandra-Worli Sea Link was also lit with a tribute, according to India Forums, adding a second public marker to the birthday in Mumbai.

Why the Mannat greeting draws a crowd

The birthday greeting outside Mannat has run for years, and 2 November has become a fixed date for many fans. Some arrive hours early, carrying posters and waiting for a short appearance. Shah Rukh Khan has missed the greeting in some years, including last year, when crowd control measures kept him away, according to India Forums. This year, the return to a greeting in person, even from a platform rather than the usual balcony spot, closed the gap left by the midnight absence.

At 61, Shah Rukh Khan remains one of the most followed actors in Hindi cinema, and the birthday remains one of the few occasions when he meets a large crowd outside his home in a single appearance. The renovation at Mannat changed where he stood and when he appeared, but the evening greeting followed the same pattern as earlier years: a wave, a salute, kisses blown to the crowd, and the arms outstretched pose that fans waited to see.

What comes next for King

With the first song out for Shah Rukh Khan and the release date set for 24 December 2026, promotion for King is now under way. Further songs, trailers and posters are expected in the weeks before release, though the makers have not announced a full schedule. The birthday appearance gave the campaign its first public moment, in front of the crowd that gathers each year outside Mannat.
