The Milwaukee Brewers are World Series champions for the first time. The Brewers beat the Tampa Bay Rays 4-1 in Game 5 on Wednesday night, Oct. 28, 2026, at Tropicana Field in St. Petersburg, Florida, and took the series 4-1. The win ended a wait that stretched back to the start of the franchise in 1969, when the club began as the Seattle Pilots before moving to Milwaukee the following year.

Jacob Misiorowski threw 5 2/3 scoreless innings of two-hit ball for the Brewers. Rookie Cooper Pratt had two hits and two runs batted in. The Rays did not score until the ninth inning, when the game was already out of reach. Milwaukee fans at Tropicana Field gave Misiorowski a standing ovation when he left the game with a right calf cramp.

How the Brewers built the lead

The Brewers scored first in the second inning. Pratt lined a single to center off Tampa Bay starter Drew Rasmussen to bring home Brice Turang for a 1-0 lead. Pratt was thrown out trying to take second on the play, but the run stood as the only run Milwaukee would need on the night.

Rasmussen, pitching on three days of rest, held Milwaukee to one run on two hits over four innings, with four strikeouts on 48 pitches. The lead grew in the fifth. David Hamilton singled to right off Kevin Kelly to score Pratt, and the Brewers led 2-0.

The sixth inning put the game beyond Tampa Bay. Garrett Cleavinger hit Christian Yelich with a pitch, and William Contreras doubled to left to score Yelich. Pratt then lifted a sacrifice fly to right, caught in foul territory, to bring Contreras home and make it 4-0. Pratt, 22, had made his major league debut in June. He set a Series rookie record with six straight hits before that sacrifice fly, and Jackson Chourio set a five-game Series record with 11 hits.

Game 3 had pointed the same way. The Brewers won that game 10-1 on Monday, Oct. 26, in St. Petersburg, after taking the first two games at American Family Field in Milwaukee by 3-2 and 5-4. The Rays won Game 4, yet never led in Game 5 after Pratt drove in Turang in the second inning.

Misiorowski steadies the Brewers on the mound

Misiorowski gave up two hits and one walk over 5 2/3 innings on 86 pitches. JoJo Romero and Abner Uribe then got the next four outs without allowing a hit, and Trevor Megill worked the last two innings. Tampa Bay finally scored in the ninth, when Liam Hicks doubled and scored on a Chandler Simpson double to right. Megill closed out the game from there.

Misiorowski thanked the fans who had traveled to Florida and followed the club all year. “They have been nothing but supportive this year and in years prior, and it has been amazing,” he said, holding back tears after the final out.

Yelich, the Milwaukee captain, spoke about the wait after the final out. “I know the city has waited a long, long time for this and we are so happy to bring it back to them,” Yelich said. “I can’t wait to get back there and celebrate.” Pratt was still taking in the speed of his own rise. “This is one of the greatest moments of my life,” Pratt said. “It only took four months.”

What the Brewers title ends after 44 years

The title came in the 58th season for the franchise. Its only previous trip to the World Series came in 1982, when Milwaukee lost 6-3 to the St. Louis Cardinals in Game 7 after holding a 3-1 lead in the sixth inning. The Associated Press described this year’s club as a small-ball team playing in the smallest market in the majors, a description that fit a roster built on contact, baserunning and pitching.

The result gives Milwaukee a first championship after 57 years without one, in a franchise history that includes only two World Series trips. The first ended in 1982. The second ended on Wednesday night in St. Petersburg, with a 4-1 win, a 4-1 series score, and a parade to plan back in Milwaukee.
