Mookuthi Amman 2 has taken an early lead in the Diwali advance booking race, with Rs 10.19 lakh gross and 7,195 tickets sold across 148 shows in India. The figures, from Sacnilk data updated at 1 pm on Tuesday, 3 November, cover bookings for the film’s opening weekend. The film releases in cinemas on Friday, 6 November.

For its opening day alone, Mookuthi Amman 2 has collected Rs 4.64 lakh in advance bookings from 3,113 tickets. Bookings for Saturday stand at Rs 2.86 lakh and for Sunday at Rs 2.68 lakh, which means the film leads across all three days of the Diwali weekend. All of the advance bookings so far come from the Tamil version of the film.

Mookuthi Amman 2 ahead of Scene in advance sales

The nearest rival in the advance booking race is Suriya’s Scene, which has registered Rs 8.63 lakh in advance gross from 4,825 tickets across 169 shows. Scene’s Telugu version accounts for 54 percent of its total advance sales at Rs 4.70 lakh, while the Tamil version contributes Rs 3.93 lakh.

The split between the two films shows a clear difference in where their early audiences sit. Mookuthi Amman 2 is drawing entirely from its Tamil base, while Scene is benefiting from appeal across languages. Scene has sold more tickets in total, but Mookuthi Amman 2 has a higher gross because its bookings are concentrated on the opening Friday, when ticket prices run higher.

Both films release on 6 November, and both face the same crowded Diwali weekend. Ramayana: Part 1, which opened on 5 November, will be in its second day when the two Tamil films arrive. The three-way contest for screens and audiences makes the advance booking figures an early signal, though opening day word of mouth will matter more once the films are out.

Mookuthi Amman 2 release and the Diwali clash

The film is directed by Sundar C and stars Nayanthara in the title role, returning as the goddess Mookuthi Amman. The film is a sequel to the 2020 original, which released direct to digital, so this is the first time the franchise plays in cinemas. The cast also includes Urvashi, Regina Cassandra, Yogi Babu and Abhinaya.

The film arrives as part of a packed Diwali slate. Ramayana: Part 1, starring Ranbir Kapoor, Sai Pallavi and Yash, opened on 5 November, while Suriya’s Scene, directed by Jithu Madhavan, arrives on 6 November alongside Mookuthi Amman 2. The weekend gives audiences three large releases in two days, and exhibitors will split shows between them based on early demand.

For the sequel, the Diwali date is a statement of confidence. A fantasy comedy led by Nayanthara, it is counting on family audiences over the festival weekend, when cinema visits traditionally rise. The advance numbers suggest that audience is already buying, at least in Tamil Nadu.

Nayanthara and the 750 crore milestone in sight

The Diwali opening also carries a personal benchmark for Nayanthara. Her 2026 tally is within Rs 20 crore of a 750 crore global milestone, according to CutMirchi, which makes the opening of Mookuthi Amman 2 relevant beyond this one film. Her other films this year tell a mixed story at the box office.

Mana Shankara Vara Prasad Garu crossed Rs 300 crore globally, while Patriot landed at Rs 80.53 crore. Toxic: A Fairytale for Grown-Ups opened past Rs 100 crore but finished at Rs 333.49 crore after negative reviews. Hi, her Tamil romantic comedy, earned Rs 15.1 crore. Against that record, a strong Diwali opening would push her yearly total past the 750 crore mark.

CutMirchi noted that if Mookuthi Amman 2 opens at Rs 5 to 6 crore, it will count as a strong start, but holding that pace will depend on word of mouth. The film’s advance booking lead over Scene is a promising first sign. The real test begins on Friday, when the film opens and audiences decide whether the goddess returns to full houses.
