Penta vs Bron Breakker is official for Monday Night Raw. WWE has added a singles match between the Men’s Money in the Bank winner and the powerhouse Breakker to the October 19 episode at Pechanga Arena in San Diego, California, setting up a collision that has been building for weeks.

Raw General Manager Adam Pearce confirmed the match on Sunday while previewing the show on social media. The announcement comes one week after Breakker attacked Je’Von Evans during Penta’s Money in the Bank victory celebration, a chaotic segment that ended with Evans taking a devastating Spear meant for the new Mr. Money in the Bank.

The bad blood between the two has been simmering since early October. On the October 5 episode of Raw, Penta teamed with Evans to defeat Breakker and Austin Theory in a non-title tag team match. Five days later, all three men competed in the Men’s Money in the Bank Ladder Match in New Orleans on October 10, which Penta ultimately won to claim the coveted briefcase.

Last week’s Raw opened with Penta celebrating his ladder-match triumph. Evans, who had suffered a brutal fall through an ambulance roof during the match, came to the ring wearing a cast on his right arm and with his ribs taped — and still congratulated Penta on winning the briefcase. The celebration was cut short when Breakker stormed the ring and attempted to attack Penta; Evans pushed Penta out of the way and absorbed a crushing Spear instead.

Breakker quickly escaped the ring as Penta checked on Evans, adding another chapter to a rivalry that now gets its first true one-on-one chapter on Monday night. For Penta, the match is an opportunity to prove he can hang with one of the roster’s most physically dominant performers as he begins his run as Mr. Money in the Bank. For Breakker, still one-half of the WWE World Tag Team Champions alongside Theory, it is a chance to derail the momentum of the company’s newest briefcase holder.

The Penta vs Bron Breakker match is not the only attraction on a loaded card. Also confirmed for Monday’s show is Joe Hendry vs. JD McDonagh, a bout that continues the intertwining storylines of Raw’s midcard as the road to the next premium live event takes shape.

Perhaps most significantly, World Heavyweight Champion Roman Reigns and Undisputed WWE Champion Sami Zayn are scheduled to come face-to-face ahead of their Champion vs. Champion match. The Reigns-Zayn dynamic remains one of the most compelling long-term stories in the company, and their confrontation in San Diego is expected to be a centerpiece segment of the broadcast.

WWE Raw airs Monday, October 19, at 8 p.m. ET / 5 p.m. PT on Netflix, continuing the show’s new era on the streaming platform. The Netflix move has given Raw a global weekly audience on a single service, and WWE has been stacking its Monday cards accordingly — with matches like Penta vs Bron Breakker designed to reward that audience with consequential in-ring action rather than filler.

Money in the Bank winners live under a particular kind of pressure: the briefcase makes them a target, and every loss chips away at the aura the contract is supposed to confer. Penta’s reign as Mr. Money in the Bank is still in its infancy, but a loss to Breakker — even a non-title loss — would complicate the story WWE wants to tell about its newest briefcase holder.

Breakker, meanwhile, has been positioned as an unstoppable force since his main-roster ascent, and his tag-team championship run with Theory has kept him in the title picture without exposing him to singles defeats. A win over the Money in the Bank holder would be the most significant singles victory of his current run and could easily be parlayed into a future world-title program.

The San Diego crowd at Pechanga Arena should be electric for it. Penta’s connection with the audience has grown with every high-risk performance, and Breakker’s explosive style makes him the perfect foil. On paper, Penta vs Bron Breakker has all the ingredients of a show-stealer — and on a night that also features Reigns and Zayn face-to-face, stealing the show is no small ambition.
