Shah Rukh Khan and Deepika Padukone are set to shoot a grand song for King in Mumbai from 26 October, according to a report by Variety India carried by Bollywood Hungama. The King song shoot is expected to run for about a week in the city, with choreographer Vaibhavi Merchant overseeing the sequence. Preparations for the shoot are already under way.

The King song shoot is expected to bring together the cast of the action thriller, and reports describe it as a major sequence in the film. Earlier reports had suggested the team might travel to South Africa to film the number. The latest update says the makers have decided to film it in Mumbai instead.

The schedule also marks Deepika Padukone’s return to a film set after welcoming her second daughter, Devi Padukone Singh, with her husband Ranveer Singh. The King song shoot is therefore being watched closely by fans of the pair, who have shared the screen in some of the biggest Hindi films of the past two decades.

King song shoot brings a familiar pairing back together

King will be the sixth film in which Shah Rukh Khan and Deepika Padukone appear together. Their partnership began with her Hindi film debut in Om Shanti Om in 2007. They went on to work together in Chennai Express, Happy New Year, Pathaan and Jawan, a run that has made them one of the most recognised pairings in Hindi cinema.

The film is directed and co-written by Siddharth Anand. It is backed by Gauri Khan, Siddharth Anand and Mamta Anand under the banners of Red Chillies Entertainment and Marflix Pictures. The ensemble cast named in reports includes Suhana Khan, Abhishek Bachchan, Anil Kapoor, Jackie Shroff, Rani Mukerji, Jaideep Ahlawat, Arshad Warsi and Raghav Juyal, with Abhay Verma also linked to the project.

For Vaibhavi Merchant, the King song shoot will be her eighth collaboration with Shah Rukh Khan. She previously worked with the actor on Jawan. Her involvement has added to interest in the sequence, since her dance numbers for the actor have often become talking points well before a film reaches cinemas.

What the King song shoot still leaves unconfirmed

Several details about the number remain unconfirmed. The song title, the composer and the other artists involved have not been disclosed in the reports so far. The makers have also not issued an official statement confirming the dates or the scale of the sequence, so the Mumbai plan rests on trade reporting for now.

Reports differ on what kind of number it will be. Some accounts describe a grand song featuring the full cast, while others note that the pair have already filmed together in Cape Town, including a reported dance scene on a beach. Whether the Mumbai sequence is a romantic track, a dance number or a story-driven set piece has not been stated in the published reports.

That uncertainty is normal at this stage of a large production. A King song shoot of this size often involves sets, costumes and rehearsals that are planned weeks in advance, and details tend to emerge only when the makers release a teaser, a poster or a first look at the number.

King song shoot arrives close to the Christmas release

King is scheduled to arrive in cinemas during the Christmas 2026 window, with 24 December named as the release date in reports. A week-long song shoot starting on 26 October leaves the production with time for post-production and promotion, but it also shows how much work remains on a film of this scale.

The reported budget for the film is about Rs 450 crore, according to trade coverage. That figure has not been confirmed by the makers. Even so, the size of the cast and the decision to mount a large song sequence in Mumbai point to a production that is aiming for a wide release.

For now, attention stays on the Mumbai schedule. If the King song shoot goes ahead as reported, it will give the film its next major filming milestone before the Christmas opening, and it will mark Deepika Padukone’s first return to a set since the birth of her second child.
