NEW DELHI: The Institute of Chartered Accountants of India (ICAI) declared the CA Intermediate September 2026 results on 22 October 2026, and the CA Inter results brought a rare tie at the top. Neel Rajesh Shah of Mumbai and Chandak Sakshi of Nashik jointly secured the all-India rank 1 with 502 marks each out of 600, or 83.67 percent.

Candidates can check their scores at caresults.icai.org using their roll and registration numbers. The results cover both groups of the Intermediate examination, which were held between 1 and 12 September 2026.

CA Inter results: who topped the list

The CA Inter results put Neel Rajesh Shah and Chandak Sakshi at the top with identical scores of 502 out of 600. Shruti V of Chennai secured all-India rank 2 with 492 marks, or 82 percent. Prem Agarwal of Surat bagged all-India rank 3 with 490 marks, or 81.67 percent.

ICAI’s press release lists four candidates across the top three ranks, with the joint first rank accounting for two of them. The merit list covers candidates scoring 55 percent and above, up to the 50th rank.

Pass percentages in the CA Inter results

The CA Inter results show how tough the examination remains. In Group I, 23,210 of the 1,00,301 candidates who appeared cleared the papers, a pass percentage of 23.14 percent. In Group II, 12,938 of 68,400 candidates passed, working out to 18.92 percent.

Candidates who appeared for both groups had a pass percentage of 13.21 percent, with 5,066 of 38,339 clearing both groups together. The figures are in line with the historically low pass rates of the CA Intermediate examination, which is known as one of the hardest professional exams in the country.

How the exams were held

The September 2026 CA Intermediate examinations were held from 1 to 12 September. Group I papers were held on September 1, 3 and 6, while Group II papers were held on September 8, 10 and 12. The results were announced within about six weeks of the last paper.

ICAI conducts the Intermediate examination, the second stage of the chartered accountancy course, three times a year. Candidates who clear both groups become eligible to register for the CA Final examination, subject to completing the required practical training.

What the toppers said about preparation

Surat’s Prem Agarwal, who secured all-India rank 3, credited consistent revision, limited social media use, guidance from his teachers and support from his family. NDTV reported that he studied 10 hours every day and stayed away from social media entirely during his preparation.

Teachers who guided the rank holders said the September session saw a strong turnout, with more than one lakh candidates appearing for Group I alone. They said the CA Inter results reward steady preparation over several months rather than last-minute study.

The merit list and what comes next

ICAI said the merit list covers all candidates who scored 55 percent and above, ranked up to the 50th position. The institute publishes the list with the names, cities and marks of the rank holders, and it is followed closely by coaching institutes and the media after every session.

Candidates who cleared both groups can now move toward the CA Final stage, subject to completing the practical training requirements of the course. Those who did not clear can register for the next attempt, as ICAI holds the Intermediate examination three times a year and will announce the next session’s schedule on its official website.

CA Inter results: how to check your score

To check the CA Inter results, candidates need to visit caresults.icai.org and enter their roll number and registration number. The scorecard shows subject-wise marks and the total, along with the pass or fail status.

ICAI has also released the merit list of the top 50 ranks on its website. Candidates who are unhappy with their marks can apply for verification of answer books within the window announced by the institute, which usually opens soon after the CA Inter results are declared.
