Dilwali Diwali premieres on Netflix on 5 November, bringing a family drama to the streaming platform during the Diwali week. The film stars Mihir Ahuja, Manoj Pahwa, Neelu Kohli and Aurra Bhatnagar, and it is directed by Ritesh Menon from a screenplay by Ritu Mago. It is produced by Terribly Tiny Tales, known as TTT, and it is the company’s latest collaboration with Netflix after Greater Kalesh and Musafir Cafe. The release date places Dilwali Diwali alongside the theatrical release of Ramayana on the same day, giving viewers a home viewing option during the festival period.
Dilwali Diwali follows Ansh Sikka, played by Mihir Ahuja, who returns home after years of working abroad. Ansh has helped his middle class Punjabi family improve their lifestyle by supporting them financially, and he has bought his parents a new high rise apartment with modern comforts. When he returns home for Diwali, he finds that a new address does not change his parents’ idea of home, and the film builds its story around that gap between what Ansh has given his family and what they value most.
Dilwali Diwali story and family conflict
Dilwali Diwali is built around a familiar family situation: a child who has done well abroad tries to repay his parents with a better house, and the parents, who have lived for years in a neighbourhood they know, measure home by memories and relationships rather than by rooms and fittings. The press note for the film describes Ansh as a young man who has done what many children dream of doing for their parents, giving them a better life, and then finding that giving his parents a house upgrade is one thing, while getting them to change their idea of home is quite another. That tension drives the humour and the quieter scenes in the film, as the Sikka family gathers for Diwali.
The film’s makers describe the story as one about messy dynamics between generations, a phrase used in the announcement coverage. As the Sikkas come together for the festival, their different ideas of what makes a good life lead to moments of humour, tenderness and recognition for viewers who have tried to do their best for their family, only to find that the best means different things to different people. The film runs for about two hours, according to Metacritic, and it is listed as a drama.
Dilwali Diwali cast and performances
Dilwali Diwali stars Mihir Ahuja as Ansh Sikka, with Manoj Pahwa playing his father. Neelu Kohli plays his mother, and Aurra Bhatnagar is also part of the cast. Mihir Ahuja said that Ansh’s journey comes from a place of love, and that the story feels relatable because people want to do their best for their families but sometimes, in trying to give them more, forget to understand what truly makes them happy. Manoj Pahwa said that for a parent, home is never just about the walls, the furniture or the address, but about the memories built, the people shared a life with, and the small things that make a place their own.
Those two statements, from the lead actors, sum up the film’s central contrast without giving away how the story resolves it. Pahwa has a long record in Hindi cinema and television, playing fathers and family figures in comedies and dramas, and his casting gives the film a familiar face for audiences who know his work. Ahuja, who has worked in streaming series and films, carries the younger perspective in the story, as a son who returns with money and plans and has to learn what his parents actually want from him.
Dilwali Diwali in the November streaming slate
Dilwali Diwali is part of Netflix India’s November 2026 slate, which includes new films, returning series, crime thrillers and family dramas. Lifestyle Asia listed it among the new Hindi releases for the week of 2 to 8 November, alongside Ramayana in theatres. The film’s Diwali timing is deliberate: Netflix announced it on 26 October, about ten days before release, and invited audiences to plan a Diwali viewing with their families, a message that fits a film about a family gathering at the festival.
Dilwali Diwali premieres only on Netflix, and it will be available to subscribers from 5 November. The film does not have a theatrical release, so its audience will be viewers who watch at home during the festival week, including families who may watch it together after Diwali celebrations. Terribly Tiny Tales, which produced the film with Vijay Subramaniam, Anuj Gosalia and Sharanya Rajgopal as producers, has built its name on short form stories about everyday relationships, and Dilwali Diwali extends that approach to a feature length family drama for the festival season.
