Olivia Rodrigo will release her first Christmas song on Thursday, November 5, a seasonal single called “take me home (4 christmas)” that arrives with a music video starring Cynthia Nixon and Ben Marshall. The song comes out at 5 p.m. Pacific time, or 8 p.m. Eastern, through Interscope Records.
Rodrigo wrote the original song with Dan Nigro and Amy Allen, and Nigro produced it. It is Olivia Rodrigo’s first holiday single, and the announcement on November 2 gave fans a release date, a video cast and a physical edition to look for, all at once.
Olivia Rodrigo and the Christmas video cast
The video for “take me home (4 christmas)” pairs Olivia Rodrigo with two unexpected co-stars. Cynthia Nixon, known to most viewers as Miranda Hobbes in Sex and the City, appears alongside her, as does Ben Marshall, a member of the comedy trio Please Don’t Destroy and a familiar face from Saturday Night Live. The video premieres at the same time as the single.
Rodrigo announced the song on Instagram on November 2, posting the single artwork, which shows her in a Santa hat with red lipstick. The announcement set the release for 5 p.m. Pacific rather than the midnight launch that usually applies to new music, so listeners on the East Coast will hear it at 8 p.m. on Thursday.
The single will be available on streaming services, and Rodrigo is also putting out an exclusive seven-inch vinyl record and a cassette edition. Both are available to preorder through her official website, and the vinyl will also be sold at Target stores from Friday, November 6. The physical editions carry a B-side track called “Miss This Christmas.”
Olivia Rodrigo closes a busy year
The Christmas single caps a full year for Olivia Rodrigo. Her third studio album, “you seem pretty sad for a girl so in love,” came out in June and debuted at No. 1 on the Billboard 200 with 485,000 first-week units, the biggest solo album debut of 2026. The album also topped the charts in 17 countries.
Rodrigo followed the album in October with a remix of “expectations” featuring Chappell Roan. The remix jumped from No. 63 to No. 3 on the Billboard Hot 100 in its first week, the highest peaking all-female collaboration on the chart this year, and it sent the album back to No. 1 on the Billboard 200. Her single “Drop Dead” from the album also reached No. 1 on the Hot 100.
The remix video also drew attention, with David Byrne appearing alongside Rodrigo in the clip. The song’s rise helped the album return to No. 1, and it gave Olivia Rodrigo another week at the top of the album chart in a year when she had already spent time there with the June debut.
A first for the holiday charts
The new song is Rodrigo’s first original Christmas track, and it puts her into a part of the calendar where older holiday songs return to the charts each year. She has not said whether the song will lead to a larger holiday project, and no other seasonal tracks have been announced. For now the single stands on its own, with the video as its main companion piece.
Billboard reported the announcement on November 2, the same day Variety covered the release plans, and both noted the 5 p.m. Pacific time slot. The timing puts the song out on Thursday evening in the United States, ahead of the weekend, and Olivia Rodrigo has not announced any live dates tied to the release.
Details of the song’s arrangement have not been shared, so listeners will hear for the first time on Thursday how her songwriting fits a Christmas theme. The label has described it only as an original holiday song, written with her regular collaborators and produced by Nigro, who has worked with her since her debut.
When it arrives
“Take me home (4 christmas)” arrives on Thursday, November 5, at 5 p.m. Pacific time, with the video starring Nixon and Marshall dropping at the same time. The seven-inch vinyl and cassette are on preorder now, and the vinyl reaches Target stores on November 6. Olivia Rodrigo will have a Christmas song in her catalog for the first time, just as the holiday season gets under way.
