Oppo may be preparing to shake up the foldable smartphone market with an entirely new form factor, as the Oppo Reno X wide-folding phone has surfaced in a fresh leak. The rumoured device is said to adopt a passport-style design that unfolds into a wider canvas than a traditional book-style foldable, and it could become the first foldable to carry the Reno branding.
According to tipster Digital Chat Station, who shared the details on Weibo, the Oppo Reno X will feature a 6.35-inch flat cover display with a resolution of 1,440 x 2,560 pixels, rated as either 1.5K or 2K. The panel is also expected to use 8T LTPO technology with a 16:9 aspect ratio, a combination aimed at delivering smoother visuals and improved power efficiency for a foldable flagship.
Oppo Reno X Display: 6.35-Inch Cover Screen Tipped
The display leak suggests Oppo is betting on usability as much as spectacle. A 6.35-inch flat outer screen with a 16:9 aspect ratio would give the phone a more familiar, phone-like feel when closed, compared with the tall and narrow cover displays found on most book-style foldables available today.
The 16:9 aspect ratio is a deliberate choice. Most foldables today use tall, narrow cover screens that make typing and video playback feel cramped. By going wider, the Oppo Reno X could feel like a conventional smartphone that happens to unfold into a small tablet, rather than a tablet that happens to fold into an awkward phone.
The 8T LTPO panel would allow the refresh rate to adapt dynamically, conserving battery life when the screen is static and ramping up when scrolling or gaming. The same pixel density as a 1.5K display should keep text and images sharp, while a flat design is likely to improve durability and simplify the use of screen protectors.
Security on the rumoured handset is expected to come from an ultrasonic fingerprint scanner built into the display, alongside face unlock support. Oppo is also reported to be using a metal mid-frame for the handset, which should lend the device a premium feel in the hand.
Oppo Reno X Camera: Triple Setup With 200MP Sensors Tipped
On the optics front, the leak points to a triple rear camera unit headlined by a 200-megapixel primary shooter. A second 200-megapixel sensor is tipped for the periscope telephoto camera, with a 50-megapixel ultrawide lens completing the setup.
If accurate, that would make the Oppo Reno X one of the most ambitious camera phones in the foldable segment, where manufacturers have traditionally compromised on camera hardware to keep devices slim. Dual 200-megapixel sensors would put the rumoured foldable ahead of most rivals on sheer resolution, at least on paper.
Under the hood, the phone is expected to run on an unspecified flagship MediaTek Dimensity 9600 series chipset. Oppo’s current flagship foldable, the Find N6, launched in China in March, but the handset would target a different audience with its passport-style wide-folding design and Reno-series positioning.
Oppo Reno X Launch: Rivals and India Expectations
The Oppo Reno X is expected to compete directly with Apple’s new iPhone Duo, the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 8, the Xiaomi 18 Fold and the Huawei Pura X View. Oppo has yet to confirm the device officially, so all specifications remain in the realm of leaks and should be treated with appropriate caution.
No pricing has been tipped, but positioning will be critical. Book-style foldables in India still command flagship prices, and the Oppo Reno X would need aggressive pricing to stand out against Samsung’s established Fold line. If Oppo can pair the novel form factor with a competitive price, the wide-folding phone could find a genuine audience among early adopters.
Separately, Oppo is reportedly working on the Find N7, tipped for launch next year with a Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 6 series chipset built on a 2nm process and a new hinge designed to minimise the inner display crease. For now, Indian buyers with an eye on foldables will be watching whether the Oppo Reno X moves from rumour to reality, and whether Oppo brings its wide-folding experiment to India at a competitive price.
