Ramayana: Part 1 took Rs 77.50 crore gross in India on its first day, and the Ramayana box office opening puts it among the biggest starts of the year. The film, directed by Nitesh Tiwari, reached cinemas worldwide on Thursday, 5 November, ahead of the Diwali weekend. Trade tracker Sacnilk put the day one India net collection at Rs 64.85 crore across 25,200 shows in five languages.

Ranbir Kapoor plays Rama, Sai Pallavi plays Sita, and Yash plays Ravana in the first of two films based on the epic. The release arrived on a Thursday, a day that usually sees lower footfalls than a Friday, and it still drew 25,25,775 people to cinemas on day one, according to Sacnilk.

Ramayana box office: Hindi leads the five-language opening

The Hindi version led the Ramayana box office charts with Rs 47.50 crore net from 20,678 shows, close to three quarters of the day one net total. The Kannada version collected Rs 7.25 crore from 1,197 shows, and the Telugu version collected Rs 6.00 crore from 1,776 shows. Tamil added Rs 2.60 crore from 992 shows, and Malayalam added Rs 1.50 crore from 557 shows.

Advance booking had already pointed to a large opening. Sacnilk recorded day one pre-sales of Rs 50.08 crore gross, including block seats, and Rs 42.96 crore without them. The tracker counted 12.14 lakh tickets sold without block seats across 26,615 shows in 1,042 cities before the first show.

The Kannada version drew attention because Yash plays Ravana, and the Ramayana box office numbers from Karnataka showed his pull outside the Hindi belt. The Telugu version also opened well, and the five-language release meant the film played across the south as well as the north on day one.

Ramayana box office in context: ahead of Pathaan, behind Jawan

The day one net figure of Rs 64.85 crore sits above the opening days of Pathaan, which took Rs 57 crore, and Animal, which took Rs 63 crore. It sits below Jawan at Rs 75 crore and below Adipurush, the earlier film based on the same epic, which took Rs 86.75 crore on its first day in 2023. Dhurandhar 2 holds the highest opening of 2026 so far, with Rs 102 crore on day one.

The comparison with Adipurush drew attention because that film received poor reviews from critics, while early word of mouth for Ramayana has been more favourable. The Ramayana box office result also makes it the second biggest opening of 2026 so far, behind Dhurandhar 2, on the net figures reported by Sacnilk.

The film carries a reported budget of Rs 1,600 crore, which makes it among the costliest Indian films made so far. That figure covers the first part alone, and the scale of the production was clear in the advance booking, with more than Rs 120 crore in worldwide pre-release ticket sales reported before release, including over Rs 45 crore gross for the opening day in India.

Exhibitors will watch the weekend closely, since the Ramayana box office total for the opening weekend will show whether the film can hold beyond the first day rush. Diwali falls in the days ahead, and family audiences usually turn out in larger numbers over the festival weekend than on a working Thursday.

Ramayana box office and the weekend ahead

Trade estimates before release had put the worldwide day one gross above Rs 150 crore, and the Ramayana box office team will watch the overseas numbers as they come in. The film opened in the pre-Diwali period, when weekday footfalls are usually soft, and the weekend that follows Diwali will give a clearer picture of how far the opening can travel.

Evening and night shows on Thursday added to the morning collections, and the film held 36 per cent occupancy across its shows on day one. The Hindi version took 75 per cent of the India gross, according to The Hollywood Reporter India, with the dubbed versions adding the rest.

The second part of the film is planned for Diwali 2028. For now, the makers have a day one gross of Rs 77.50 crore in India, a net of Rs 64.85 crore, and a full Diwali weekend ahead of them.
