Yami Gautam’s horror-comedy Nayyi Navelli picked up pace on its second day in cinemas, collecting Rs 4 crore in India net earnings on Saturday, October 17, according to trade tracker Sacnilk. The figure marks a 23.1 per cent rise over the film’s Rs 3.25 crore opening day, taking the film’s two-day domestic net total to Rs 7.25 crore.
According to the Times of India, the worldwide gross collection of Nayyi Navelli has reached Rs 10.13 crore after two days in theatres. The domestic gross stands at Rs 8.63 crore, while overseas markets contributed Rs 1.50 crore to the total worldwide figure.
The film opened in theatres on Friday, October 16, and marks the Bollywood directorial debut of Tamil filmmaker Balaji Mohan. The second-day growth is significant because it came despite a reduction in the number of shows, suggesting that audience interest in the film is building through word of mouth.
The weekend box-office race is being watched closely because Nayyi Navelli is in a direct clash with Rajkummar Rao’s courtroom drama Prahaar: The Untold Story of Ujjwal Nikam, which released on the same Friday. With both films targeting the festive-season audience, the Saturday numbers give the Yami Gautam starrer an early edge.
Nayyi Navelli Day 2: Shows, Occupancy and Footfalls Climb
According to Sacnilk’s day-wise data, Nayyi Navelli played across 5,945 shows on its second day, compared with 6,281 shows on Friday. Despite the drop in show count, the film’s overall occupancy improved from 11 per cent on opening day to 14 per cent on Saturday.
The Hindi 2D version of Nayyi Navelli registered an overall occupancy of 21.99 per cent on Saturday. Morning screenings recorded 7.77 per cent occupancy, while afternoon shows reached 24.08 per cent. Evening occupancy stood at 24.46 per cent, followed by 27.15 per cent during night screenings, which recorded the highest turnout among the four time slots.
The film recorded 179,695 footfalls on Saturday, taking its cumulative footfall count to 334,706 over the first two days. Trade observers note that the occupancy growth, achieved across fewer shows, points to strengthening demand for the horror-comedy as the weekend progresses.
Bollywood Hungama’s trade estimates put the Saturday collection slightly higher at Rs 4.25 crore, describing the day-two jump as “muted” but positive. Either way, the direction of the trend favours the film heading into Sunday.
Nayyi Navelli Box Office vs Prahaar in the Festive Clash
The two films arrived in theatres on the same Friday, offering audiences two very different choices for the festive weekend. While Nayyi Navelli is positioned as a horror-comedy aimed at families and young viewers, Prahaar is an intense courtroom drama inspired by public prosecutor Ujjwal Nikam’s involvement in cases linked to the 1993 Bombay bombings and the 2008 Mumbai attacks, according to Filmibeat.
As reported by Zoom TV, Prahaar opened to Rs 2.35 crore on Friday, below the Yami Gautam film’s Rs 3.25 crore opening. Industry estimates suggest the Rajkummar Rao starrer could add between Rs 3 crore and Rs 3.5 crore on Saturday, which would place its two-day total at roughly Rs 5 crore, trailing the Yami Gautam film.
The contrast is notable because the two films are chasing different audience moods. Prahaar may attract viewers looking for a serious, real-life legal story, while the horror-comedy could benefit from families seeking lighter festive entertainment, as Zoom TV observed.
Both new releases are also contending with holdover titles. Rajinikanth’s Jailer 2 remains the top choice at the Indian box office, and Ajay Devgn’s Drishyam: The Conclusion continues to collect despite being in its third week, according to trade reports.
Nayyi Navelli: Cast, Cameo and the Road Ahead
The film stars Yami Gautam in the lead role, alongside Adinath Kothare, Mita Vashisht, Sonal Jha and Sunita Rajwar. Bollywood Hungama reported that Jacqueline Fernandez appears in a cameo in the film. The project marks Tamil filmmaker Balaji Mohan’s first Bollywood directorial venture.
Sunday’s collections will be critical for Nayyi Navelli‘s first-weekend tally. Trade analysts expect the horror-comedy genre, combined with the festive mood, to help the film consolidate its lead over its direct competitor. A first-weekend India net total in the range of Rs 10 crore to Rs 11 crore would give it a platform to sustain through the coming week.
Much will depend on weekday holds. If Nayyi Navelli can maintain its Saturday momentum into the working week, the film could emerge as a modest success story of the festive window. For now, the Yami Gautam starrer has won the opening round of the weekend clash, and the industry will be watching Monday’s numbers closely.
