The Adani IHCL hotels deal splits the portfolio across the four cities by brand. Three Taj hotels, two Vivanta hotels, one Gateway hotel and two Ginger hotels make up the eight properties. The mix covers luxury, upscale and mid scale stays, and it gives IHCL a presence at airports where passengers need rooms for business, leisure and transit stops. With these additions, IHCL will have 25 hotels at key airports in India.
Adani IHCL hotels by city
Mumbai gets a Taj hotel at Terminal 2 of the Mumbai airport, a property already under construction. Lucknow will host a Vivanta hotel and a Ginger hotel. Ahmedabad will have a Taj hotel and a Vivanta hotel, both at advanced stages of development. Guwahati will receive three properties, a Taj, a Gateway and a Ginger. The Adani IHCL hotels will be built over the next three to four years, according to the companies, and the announcement did not give an investment value or completion dates for individual properties.
Adani IHCL hotels and the airport city plan
The Adani IHCL hotels agreement sits inside a larger airport city programme. Adani Airports has formed Adani Airport City Limited to develop a land bank of more than 655 acres across eight airports in seven states, including nearly 440 acres in Mumbai and Navi Mumbai. In the first phase, the company plans to invest more than 20,000 crore rupees to develop around 22 million square feet across Mumbai, Navi Mumbai, Ahmedabad, Lucknow, Jaipur and Guwahati.
Adani IHCL hotels follow an earlier IHG deal
The Adani IHCL hotels deal is the second such tie up by the Adani Group for hotel development on airport owned land in five months. In May, the group partnered with IHG Hotels and Resorts to build five hotels around four airports. The two deals together show a steady push to turn airport land into commercial and hospitality districts, rather than leaving it as plain transit space.
For IHCL, the agreement extends a multi brand approach that already covers luxury stays under Taj, upscale stays under Vivanta and Gateway, and lean luxury under Ginger. Airport hotels give the company rooms where demand comes from flight schedules as well as local business, and the eight new properties add more than 2,000 rooms to that network. Construction timelines and opening dates for each hotel will be set as the projects move forward. The Adani IHCL hotels also strengthen the company’s airport footprint at a time when domestic air travel continues to grow, since passengers arriving late or departing early often need a room close to the terminal rather than in the city centre.
Airport linked hotels serve a mix of guests that city hotels do not. Airline crews need rooms between duties, business travellers need meeting space near their flights, and families in transit need short stays. The Adani IHCL hotels target all three groups through their brand mix, with Taj properties aimed at premium travellers, Vivanta and Gateway at upscale guests, and Ginger at travellers who want a simpler stay. That spread across price points is part of why the two companies chose four brands for eight properties instead of one brand for all.
