Prime Minister Narendra Modi released the 24th instalment of PM-KISAN from Banaskantha in Gujarat on 30 October, transferring more than Rs 18,690 crore to over 9.34 crore farmer families across India. Each eligible family received Rs 2,000, paid straight into an Aadhaar-linked bank account through direct benefit transfer. Modi started the transfer at a farmers gathering in Banaskantha district, while Union Agriculture Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan joined the programme from Raisen in Madhya Pradesh.

Modi told the gathering that more than Rs 18,000 crore had reached the accounts of about 10 crore farmers, using rounder figures than the Agriculture Ministry release. The ministry put the transfer at over Rs 18,690 crore for over 9.34 crore farmers. In Gujarat, Modi said more than 50 lakh farmers received more than Rs 1,000 crore, with nearly Rs 50 crore reaching farm families in Banaskantha district alone, according to ANI. Gujarat Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel and Deputy Chief Minister Harsh Sanghavi attended the Banaskantha events.

State figures reported after the release showed the spread of the payment. Odisha received Rs 3,000 crore for 35.38 lakh farmers, officials said. Rajasthan received more than Rs 1,335 crore for over 66.59 lakh farming families, Chief Minister Bhajan Lal Sharma said. Sharma joined the programme through video conferencing from his official residence in Jaipur. He said Rajasthan farmers had received more than Rs 29,099 crore through 23 instalments since the scheme began in 2019.

How PM-KISAN payments reach farmers

PM-KISAN pays eligible landholding farmer families Rs 6,000 a year in three equal instalments of Rs 2,000. The money moves by direct benefit transfer into bank accounts linked to Aadhaar. Farmers can check each PM-KISAN instalment on the official portal through the Know Your Status page under Farmers Corner, using a registration number and a one-time password sent to a registered mobile number.

Payments can be held where checks are incomplete. The Agriculture Ministry said benefits in suspected cases had been temporarily withheld till physical verification was completed. Under PM-KISAN rules, a farmer’s land records must be linked on the portal and the bank account must be linked to Aadhaar. A farmer who fails a check is not paid for that instalment, and the portal shows the status of each payment. The count for this PM-KISAN release is about 10 lakh lower than on the June release day, and the ministry release did not say why.

What PM-KISAN has paid since 2019

PM-KISAN began in February 2019. Before this release, the first 23 instalments had paid Rs 4.47 lakh crore to eligible farmers, according to a PTI report issued before the event. With the 24th instalment, total PM-KISAN payments crossed Rs 4.64 lakh crore, Rural Voice reported. The Union Cabinet approved continuation of the scheme from 2026-27 to 2030-31 in July 2026, with a total outlay of Rs 3.15 lakh crore.

A NITI Aayog evaluation quoted by the government in July found more than 92 percent of beneficiaries said they used the money for farming. About 85 percent reported higher farm income and less reliance on informal loans, the evaluation found. Those figures are survey responses reported by the government, not an audit of every account, and they describe what beneficiaries told surveyors rather than a verified change in every household income.

Projects announced alongside the release

Modi also used the Banaskantha visit to open and lay foundation stones for projects worth more than Rs 14,000 crore in the district. He dedicated 521 units set up under the Agriculture Infrastructure Fund, which supports storage, processing and related farm infrastructure. He also inaugurated 12 horticulture clusters meant to promote high-value crops and improve farm incomes, and the visit had begun with a roadshow in Banaskantha on 30 October.

Earlier in the visit, Modi visited the Embryo Transfer Technology In Vitro Fertilisation Laboratory and the Bharat Bovine Breeding and Research Centre cattle farm. The centre works on the Kankrej breed, ANI reported. On 31 October, Modi was scheduled to take part in National Unity Day events marking the 151st birth anniversary of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel, closing a two-day Gujarat visit built around farm support, cattle breeding work and district projects.
