Tanush Kotian produced the finest bowling figures of his career on the final day of Mumbai’s Ranji Trophy match against Haryana, taking eight wickets for 81 runs as the 42 time champions completed a 10 wicket win at the MCA-BKC ground in Mumbai on Thursday. Tanush Kotian had already taken three wickets for 70 runs in the first innings, and his second innings haul gave him 11 wickets in the match, his first 10 wicket match haul in domestic cricket. Mumbai needed only 97 runs to win after Haryana were bowled out for 256 in their second innings, and the openers reached the target without losing a wicket in 10.4 overs.

Haryana resumed the final day on 73 for two in their second innings, still well behind after being asked to follow on. Tanush Kotian had taken the first wicket of the innings on day three, and he added seven more on the final day to run through the batting order. He removed overnight batters Himanshu Rana for 46 and Nishant Sindhu for 44, denying both men a half century, and then worked through the lower order as Haryana tried to bat out the day and save the match. The win was Mumbai’s third straight victory with a bonus point in the Ranji Trophy this season.

Tanush Kotian breaks through on the final morning

The morning session set the tone for the day. Tanush Kotian opened the bowling from the pavilion end with Haryana needing to bat for long periods to avoid defeat, and he struck early to remove the overnight batters. Rana and Sindhu had held Haryana together at the start of the day, but once they fell, Mumbai kept taking wickets at regular intervals. The off spinner bowled 34.3 overs in the innings, conceding 81 runs and taking eight wickets, figures that bettered his previous best in an innings and in a match.

Haryana did find some resistance in the lower order. Samant Jakhar scored 40 and shared an 81 run stand for the eighth wicket with Anuj Thakral, who finished unbeaten on 40. That partnership delayed Mumbai for a time on a slowing surface, but Tanush Kotian broke the stand by removing Jakhar and then cleaned up the tail to finish the innings. Haryana had made 270 in the first innings, and Mumbai had replied with 430, a lead of 160 runs that forced the follow on. After the second innings total of 256, Mumbai were left with a target that never looked like troubling them.

Tanush Kotian and Musheer Khan shape the match

Tanush Kotian was not the only Mumbai player to leave a mark on the match. Musheer Khan scored 109 in Mumbai’s first innings and took eight wickets across the match, giving Mumbai control with both bat and ball. His hundred helped Mumbai build a first innings lead that put Haryana under pressure from the second day onwards, and his wickets added to the pressure once Haryana batted again. Mumbai’s depth showed in the chase as well, with Divyaansh Saxena finishing unbeaten on 30 from 25 balls and Angkrish Raghuvanshi unbeaten on 67 from 39 balls.

Raghuvanshi had already scored a hundred in the first innings, and he finished the chase with seven fours and three sixes as Mumbai reached 97 without loss in under 11 overs. Mumbai collected seven points from the match, including the bonus point, while Haryana took none.

Tanush Kotian and the wider Ranji Trophy round

The round produced big bowling figures elsewhere too. Parth Bhut took eight wickets in an innings as Saurashtra beat Assam by an innings and 12 runs, and Pradipta Pramanik claimed his first 10 wicket match haul in first class cricket as Bengal beat Kerala by 287 runs.

For Tanush Kotian, the match adds to a domestic record that has kept him in the India A setup. He was part of India’s Test squad in December 2024, when Ravichandran Ashwin retired during the series in Australia, and reports after the Haryana match noted that a place in the senior side is not easy to earn at present. A match haul of 11 wickets, including a career best innings return, is the kind of performance that keeps a bowler in the discussion. Mumbai will now look to carry this form into their next match, while Haryana must regroup after a defeat that came with no points from the round.

Mumbai, with 42 titles, remain the most successful side in the history of the competition. Their win over Haryana, sealed by Tanush Kotian on the final day, kept their perfect start to the season intact and left them well placed in Group D as the tournament moves into its next round.
